Current Proposal

The current proposal is for a restructure of the dues schedule for members.
The proposal was presented by Scott Reynolds
Below is the initial proposal and the discussions that were had at the 5/12 business meeting.

Proposed Membership Dues Adjustment

The Board of Directors recently discussed the club’s annual dues structure, which has remained unchanged since 2005.

During that time, operating costs, insurance, utilities, maintenance, repairs, and contractor costs have all increased substantially. Adjusted for inflation alone, $50 in 2005 would equate to roughly $85 today in purchasing power.

The Board also recognized that the club operates differently today than it did years ago. While WRGC still benefits from dedicated volunteers, much of the maintenance, repair, and operational work that was once performed by member volunteers now requires outside contractors and paid services.

Over the last several years, the club has also invested in long-deferred maintenance, safety improvements, repairs, and facility upgrades intended to preserve and improve the property for current and future members.

Even with the proposed adjustment, WRGC dues would remain modest compared to many other clubs and organizations.

The goal of this proposal is not extravagant spending, but rather ensuring the long-term sustainability, maintenance, safety, and future growth of the club while continuing to keep membership affordable and accessible.

The Board recognizes the importance of affordability, especially for members on fixed incomes, and there were differing opinions regarding the amount and structure of any increase. However, after more than 20 years without a dues increase, I believe the following proposal represents a balanced and reasonable approach.

Proposed Dues Structure

  • Regular Membership: $50 → $75
  • Senior Membership: $25 → $40
  • Life Membership: $15 → $25
  • Junior Membership: $2 → $5
All other membership terms and conditions remain unchanged.

Accordingly, I would like to make a motion to amend the annual dues structure effective January 1, 2027 per the above

There was a Motion to amend to new fee structure starting January 2027. Motion made and accepted.

Member discussion followed:

Marianne spoke to members present and noted that we have made a lot of upgrades but maybe table the rest of projects that have not been started; she is recommending a $10 increase per member.

The following points were made by the membership for consideration:

  • A member remarked that a $10 increase is feasible.

  • Another member pointed out that $25 is less than a box of centerfire ammo.

  • Another member stated that whether 10 or 25, it is still a reasonable amount, but may get a small section of members not renewing.

  • Another member stated they have gone to an indoor range and they charge 30 per hour, maybe offer an opportunity to do work hours to reduce their dues.

  • Scott agreed with ‘work credit’ to reduce the dues but that system would need to be discussed and developed as a followup.

  • Another member recommended to possibly not increase the senior as much so to not be such an impact.

  • Another member stated that $75/yr is only $9 per month.

  • Another member stated that possibly, if we lose people, it may not be a bad thing, and we are the only club that he has heard of that does not have mandatory work hours. He stated that we need to have people that do things for the club.

  • Marianne stated that she has been doing membership for over 30 years, she feels that people are going to drop out.

  • Another member noted that the highest increase is equivalent to about a cup of coffee a month.

  • Another member asked have we thought about doing a raffle as alternative income and Marianne stated that members were sick of them and it cost more to print the raffle tickets and we did not get a return on that expense.

  • Member stated in an Orange County club, they run a 50/50 for the year, another member mentioned a mandatory raffle, sell tickets or pay dues but these alternatives were not widely embraced.

Discussion was closed and tabled to next meeting for further discussion and vote.
